Mindset Matters - Where Shared Experiences Connect People
Encompas Mental Health Wellness Program
May 16th, 2023 – 1000 – 1130 ET
Featuring Skidrow CEO Joe Roberts and Retired OPP Constable Scott MacLeod - The Distress Call That Changed Their Lives
Hosted by Dalton Associates CEO Carl Dalton
About the Speakers:
Joe Roberts aka The Skidrow CEO, is an expert on resiliency and change. Having experienced both catastrophic failure and extraordinary success Joe teaches how to overcome the roadblocks that get in the way of high performance. He helps companies and individuals redefine what’s truly possible by confronting limiting mindsets. Participants at Joes’ events leave inspired and moved to action. What is most amazing about Joe is that in 1989 he was living on the streets of Vancouver as a homeless skid row addict. Through perseverance, determination and his resilient human spirit, Joe pulled himself out of darkness and despair, to become a highly respected business and community leader.
Scott MacLeod retired from the O.P.P. in December 2014 after 35 years. Scott’s first posting was in Downsview detachment chasing taillights across the Hwy 401. After just over four years he was transferred to Barrie and performed duties with the Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU). Following TRU, he worked in Barrie detachment doing general duties and finally in 1994, he transferred to the Identification Unit where he stayed until retirement. Scott has been married to the same woman for almost 39 years. They have four daughters, three sons-in-law and almost eight grandchildren. In the summer Scott enjoys bad golf and the cottage. In the winter he enjoys good skiing and time in Florida.
About the Session:
Join us on Tuesday May 16th from 10:00am ET – 11:30am ET for a fascinating opportunity to meet Joe Roberts aka The Skidrow CEO and Retired OPP Constable Scott MacLeod, who answered a typical distress call in 1991 - a man with a gun who was threatening suicide. “Just another addict going to jail” was Scott’s first thought.
This ‘typical’ arrest ignited a transformation that set Joe on a pathway which moved him from living on the streets of Vancouver as a homeless skid row addict to where he is today – CEO and an expert on resiliency and change and, still in touch with Scott MacLeod after all these years.
We’ll dig into this story from both perspectives to understand what was unique about this interaction that resulted in such a positive turnaround. Are there lessons that can be learned and applied or was this a once in a million experience?
