A Qunite West OPP officer is in stable condition after surgery following being stabbed at a traffic stop near Belleville in the early morning hours of Sunday March 21, 2021. OPP President Rob Stinson stated:
"The notifications were being made shortly after 1am. Our brother is in stable condition as he is recovering from surgery. I have been in contact with family and co-workers offering our support. Thanks to the members of the community that assisted in the apprehension of the suspect. Prayers and thoughts for our brother, family and everyone that has been affected by this tragedy."

In response to media inquiries on Monday March 22, 2021 President Rob Stinson stated:
"Our thoughts and prayers are with our OPP officer and their family after they sustained a serious injury as a result of being stabbed in the neck near Belleville. This incident goes to show, whether it be responding to a call or stopping a vehicle, there is no such thing as a routine call or a routine traffic stop. Our members are well trained and do a dangerous job every day. Thank you to all police officers, first responders, communications staff and the public for going above and beyond to locate and arrest the suspect in this incident."
The family of the officer has requested that his identity not be released to the media or on social media channels to protect their privacy.
