As some of you may know, in the past two years we have hosted the Marc Hovingh Memorial Ride on Manitoulin Island to honour OPP Constable Marc Hovingh, whose life was taken in 2020. In the past year we have done some thinking, how can we honour all those we have lost? In our discussions, and further communication with Marc’s wife, Lianne, we are revisiting how we honour Marc – as well as honour all the brothers and sisters we have lost. Sadly, we have lost far too many officers in the recent past and want to make sure we ride for them, but also for those we lost before them.

Out of those discussions came the “Tour De Force, Heroes in Life Cycling Series”.

As a pilot, this year’s Marc Hovingh Memorial Ride will be the first Tour De Force, Heroes in Life Cycling Series ride that will memorialize all officers who have died in the line of duty in the Northwest and Northeast Regions. Please join us on September 9 and 10 (in person or virtually). The link to register is above and we have attached a poster with a UCR code. Please pass it along to your members. There will be two days of rides available. There will be a long distance, a medium distance and a family ride. All rides will start and finish out of Mindemoya, on Manitoulin Island.

For 2024, we are proposing a ride be hosted by each region of our province over the riding season. We have used the MTO regions to break up the province. Prior to the ride, we will read out the names of each officer we lost in that region to memorialize them.

We will have more details on the purposed new format for officer memorial rides at a future meeting.
