On October 29, 2021, 21 highly qualified experienced police officers were sworn in as members of the Ontario Provincial Police (including one to the Georgina Island Police).

We are proud of our new members, who collaboratively speak six languages and have over 206 years of combined policing experience. OPP Association President Rob Stinson was present at the swearing in ceremony at OPP General Headquarters in Orillia to personally welcome our new members.

We encourage members to check up to date official Government of Canada travel information specific to COVID-19 travel, testing and borders, travelling to, from and within Canada, immigration, passports, transportation regulations and the movement of goods at Travel.gc.ca.

The next session in the monthly Encompas Mental Health Awareness and Communication Series is Wednesday October 27, 2021, from 1000 – 1100 ET. This session will feature Dan Bowers.

A retired Detective Sergeant, Dan spent over 30 years with the Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.). His resume includes; Criminal Investigator, Communications Centre/911 Supervisor, Intelligence Officer and O.P.P. Liaison to Interpol International Fugitive Investigations Section. Dan has been living with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety for many years. Personal experience, as it relates to the effects on family, has taught him that early detection is critical for anyone who may be affected by PTSD. Subsequently, providing meaningful awareness and training has become his passion.

Please join us for a conversation with retired Detective Sergeant Dan Bowers as he shares his personal experiences and reflects on the critical lessons learned about prioritizing one’s mental health, well-being and family no matter where you are in your career and wellness journey.

The 2021 Annual General Meeting of the Ontario Provincial Police Association is underway in Collingwood, Ontario from Monday October 18 – Thursday October 21, led by OPPA President Rob Stinson. 

Our Opening Ceremony kicked off the AGM and can be watched on the video below.

A moment of silence to honour our deceased members was observed and the names of our members who have died since our last AGM were read. Our members are our focus and our strength. The service of those who have died will always be honoured and remembered. 

A Land Acknowledgement celebrating the Indigenous community was done by Kathie Menard of Branch 7. 

Two of the seven member Board positions are up for election at this AGM. Civilian Director David Sabatini was acclaimed for another term.

There are four candidates for the two Director positions. The four candidates addressed the delegates on Monday afternoon. Voting results will be known Wednesday afternoon at approximately 2pm.

ay 2 featured a focus on mental health. Below is a video of Sarah Routhier, who spoke to the Congress and attended the Trade Show to sign copies of her book titled “Don’t Forget Your Roots”. Sarah’s husband OPP Sergeant Sylvain Routhier died by suicide. Sarah would like all first responders and their families to read her book and recognize the symptoms of declining mental health to prevent suicide. The book can be purchased on Amazon. The video of Sarah’s talk to congress is below:

A presentation on the Encompas Mental Health Wellness Program was done by Carl Dalton, the CEO of Dalton Associates. Over 1200 members and their families have accessed the program in the first 18 months of its existence. Plans for the future of the program were discussed. A presentation from the Healthy Workplace Team led by Chief Psychologist Dr. Vivien Lee was done to Congress.
