Members of the Ontario Provincial Police Association led by President Rob Stinson attended the police funeral at BMO Field in Toronto Monday July 12, 2021 for Toronto Police Service Detective Constable Jeffrey Northrup. The veteran officer was killed in the line of duty last week. . The officer was remembered at his funeral Monday as a kind, gentle giant who loved his family deeply and was quick to lend a hand wherever he could. Detective Constable Northrup leaves behind his wife, mother, two sons and a daughter. 

Several tributes were posted online causing the hash tag #HeroesInLife to trend throughout Canada on Twitter.

This includes the eligibility criteria for insured benefits upon retirement, how to continue insurances at retirement and the types of insurances available to members at retirement.

Confirmation that a member has met the eligibility criteria for insured benefits at retirement can be obtained from the Ontario Pension Board – OPB.ca or 1-800-668-6203

Although the carrier for insured benefits remains the same (Canada Life) the policy number will change from 44501 for active members to 6772 for retired members. Your ID number will also change from your WIN number to your client ID number with the Ontario Pension Board.

About the Speaker:

Carobeth is a Clinical Psychologist and a Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst who has, since 2001, worked with children, youth, and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders, intellectual/developmental disabilities, behaviour disorders, and learning disabilities. She has a Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno.
 
Carobeth has worked in government and private practice settings, and her past consultation experience includes a wide variety of environments, including home and centre-based Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) programs, schools, group homes, residential treatment programs, long term care facilities, adult day programs, inpatient mental health settings, and children’s aid societies. She also has experience working with Indigenous children and youth in rural and remote communities throughout Ontario. She received the 2018 Gerry Bloomfield Award from Autism Ontario and the 2017 President’s Award for Service Excellence from ONTABA for her work on the MCYS OAP Advisory Committee.

About the Session:

Child and youth mental health has been discussed frequently this past year, in light of the numerous changes in our daily lives as a result of the pandemic. The session will share information regarding available mental health services for children and youth. The goal is to answer commonly asked questions, including:

  • When should I reach out to a professional about my child or youth?
  • What supports are available to support my child or youth?
  • How do I access supports?
  • What do mental health services look like for my children or youth?
  • How are families involved in services and supports?

We will discuss commonly accessed services, including counselling and psychotherapy, psychoeducational assessment, behaviour supports, and specialized services.  A question-and- answer period will be held at the end of our talk.

These presentations will provide education on topics and solutions for healing and resilience.  They will also showcase some of the speciality services such as Residential Treatment or Intensive Outpatient treatment.

Staff Sergeant Ryan Dougan is pictured presenting Kathleen with a plaque from the detachment and OPP Association Director Dave Dube presented Kathleen with some OPPA swag.

Our OPP Association Strategic Communications Coordinator Karen Lagace retires today after 25yrs of service to our members and 43 years in the workforce. A sign mysteriously showed up in her front yard! We wish you all the best Karen. Thank you for all you have done. Happy Retirement Karen! 😍

The Stable Grounds in Rodney, Ontario is hosting 3-night and one-week wellness retreats for first responders in July/2021.

The 3-night retreats provide an experiential taste of the treatment experience, while the one-week retreats offer a comprehensive look at the individual. The retreats aim to increase self-awareness and mental readiness for positive change. Each session is limited to ten residential participants.

Retreat content includes: Equine Assisted Learning, Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, EMDR, Neurofeedback, Occupational Stress Injury, Addiction and Occupational Therapy Information Session, Virtual Reality, Sanctuary Trauma, and Individual and Group Sessions.
