Message from The Saanich Police Association and Victoria City Police Union
At approximately 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28th, officers with the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team and additional Saanich Police and Victoria Police responded to a call that two armed men had entered a bank in the 3600-block of Shelbourne Street in Saanich. Multiple officers responded to the scene and encountered the armed suspects who exchanged gunfire with police. During the proceeding gunfight, six police officers were shot, as well as two suspects who died at the scene.
As a result of this incident, multiple sworn and civilian members of the Saanich Police Association (SPA) and Victoria City Police Union (VCPU) have been physically and mentally injured. The total impact of this event is still unknown as some of our officers are facing life-altering injuries. As a result of community members asking where they can send financial support, we generated this .
The SPA and VCPU have created a joint committee in an effort to ensure our members and their families are taken care of during this time. Many expenses are expected to arise over the coming months and potentially long-term. The money raised will allow us to provide continued support to our members in a variety of ways including but not limited to accommodation and transportation for families of those who are in hospital, psychological support, modifications to homes to allow for future transition from hospital and much more.
Our hope is that none of our members need to worry about any financial burden during this time and can focus on healing and being together with their loved ones.
Thank you for considering donating to this cause. We have been overwhelmed with the support from our communities already and can’t thank everyone enough.
Sincerely,
The Saanich Police Association and Victoria City Police Union

Happy Canada Day from the OPP Association. Today is a day to celebrate our country and everyone who calls Canada home. I am extremely proud of our country, and our OPP members who work tirelessly to serve and protect the citizens of Ontario each and every day.
We are not perfect, and we are always striving to do better as individuals, as an organization, as a province and as a country. I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of our members for their commitment to their jobs, and our community safety.
This weekend a number of our members are deployed to Canada’s Capitol once again for anticipated protests. Thank you to all who are working and sacrificing their Canada Day away from family and their communities. Your service is appreciated.
Indigenous Peoples of Canada merit special mention today. The tragedy of residential school children cannot and will not be ignored. The OPP Association will do all we can do to facilitate and promote reconciliation.
It is my wish for all to work towards peace and unity throughout our great land of Canada. It is important to support and lean on each other during difficult times. It is equally important to celebrate and be grateful for all we have as a proud nation.
Your OPP Association is here to support you and our community every step of the way.
Happy Canada Day!
Rob Stinson
President, OPP Association
