It is with deepest regret that we announce the passing of NOEL READMAN, Badge #3213, who passed away on July 30, 2023. Noel served at the Smithville Detachment before retiring as Senior Constable from the Burlington Detachment on August 31, 1995.

Noel is survived by his children Rob and Mike and predeceased by his spouse Sharon.

A Celebration of Life has already taken place.

At the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM), four (4) Provincial Director positions of the OPPA Board of Directors will be open for election. Each position carries a term of three (3) years. Of the four positions, two are currently held by incumbent Directors who are eligible to seek re-election.

It is with deepest regret that we announce the passing of JOHN ARNOLD Badge #2303 who passed away on September 1, 2025. John served at Toronto and Downsview Detachments before retiring as Sergeant from the Whitby Detachment on December 31, 1993.

John is survived by his wife Maureen Hermann-Arnold (retired OAG8 – Cobourg) and children, Kim, Anita, Christine, Paul, Rob and Leah.

The 48th annual Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial is on Sunday September 28th at 11am on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

This year, historical names of fallen officers will be added to the tablets at the rear of Parliament, with the names of more than 900 police and peace officers’ who have died in the line of duty in Canada being read and honoured in a moving ceremony.

All members are invited to attend the event in #1 Dress Uniform, dress of the day, or business attire.

OPP Commissioner Carrique, OPPA President Cerasuolo and COA President Nash have issued a joint memo outlining the dress of the day, and many details for attending OPP members.

There are many other weekend events happening in Ottawa, including the Ride to Remember, and National Peace Officers’ Memorial Run.

All details about the event are posted on the official blog of the Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial.

The OPP Association provides up to $300 in funding for members to attend. An online form needs to be submitted by September 5th. (Please be sure to read the instructions carefully).

The Reading of the Names, and the Ceremony will be livestreamed.



The Ontario Provincial Police Tactics and Rescue Unit is celebrating their 50th anniversary with a reunion to be held from 03 to 05 October 2025 in Orillia.

The reunion will include a pub night at Casino Rama on Friday night, a day of team demos and fellowship at the Uhthoff Ranges on Saturday and then a banquet on Saturday night.

All members who have served with or along side our TRU program, including family and friends, are welcome to join us in celebrating this occasion.

It is with deepest regret that we announce the passing of KELVIN (KELLY) SMITH, Badge #3408, who passed away on August 23, 2025. Kelly served at Dutton, Woodstock and London Detachments and London DHQ Traffic before retiring as a Sergeant from the West Region Traffic Unit on May 31, 1997.

Kelly served as a Director with the OPP Association Board of Directors in 1981-1991.

Kelly is survived by his spouse Bonnie and his children Hayley, Laura, Sean, Bob and Heather.
