Statement from OPP Association – The OPP Association Calls for Meaningful Action Following Recent Attacks on Police Officers

The OPP Association is deeply troubled and outraged by the recent series of incidents that have left police officers across Canda killed or seriously injured in the line of duty.
In recent weeks, members of the policing community have experienced an unprecedented number of tragedies, serving as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by frontline officers every day.
“We cannot allow these incidents to become routine headlines or accepted as part of the job,” said OPP Association President David Sabatini. “Every officer who puts on the uniform deserves to return home safely at the end of their shift. The recent violence directed toward police officers should concern every Canadian.”
The OPP Association supports emergency discussions among Canada’s premiers to address the growing threats facing frontline law enforcement personnel and the broader public safety implications of these incidents.
Meaningful dialogue and coordinated action are necessary to ensure governments across the country are doing everything possible to protect both the public and the officers who serve them.
These tragedies have affected police services, families, and communities across Canada. As the policing community continues to mourn those who have been killed and support those who have been injured, the Association believes this moment demands serious attention and a renewed commitment to protecting those who serve on the front lines.
The OPP Association remains committed to advocating for measures that improve officer safety and help ensure that Ontario’s police officers have the support, resources, and protections necessary to carry out their duties safely.
