Sergeant Brandon Malcolm, of Northumberland (Brighton) Detachment, died in the line of duty while operating his police motorcycle in Cobourg on Monday, April 27, 2026.

Sergeant Malcolm began his career with the OPP as a Provincial Constable with Northumberland (Brighton) in June 2020 and remained a stalwart presence within the detachment area. During his time there, he excelled, always seeking opportunities to learn and develop. He strived to become a well-rounded officer to better serve the community. Brandon was the OPP Association Detachment Representative for Northumberland.

He was an accomplished and proud member of the OPP Golden Helmets. He was highly respected and trusted as a leader who fostered a supportive environment. His quiet confidence, professionalism, and strong work ethic made him an integral part of the Ontario Provincial Police.

Sergeant Malcolm’s goal was to become a police officer. He had been an Auxiliary member with the Toronto Police Service prior to joining the OPP and served as a Combat Engineer with the Canadian Armed Forces. He had a brief opportunity to live out his dream and to do his best to keep our community safe. He will forever be a hero in life.
