Eighty new Basic Constable Training spots were announced in a press conference hosted by Ontario Solicitor General Michael Kerzner at Ontario Police College on October 9, 2024. The additional spaces will be prioritized for small and medium sized police services and First Nations Police.

OPP Association President John Cerasuolo was honoured to attend and stated:

“Staffing shortages in policing is not only a provincial issue, but a worldwide issue in 2024. We are grateful over the past few years we have seen available training spots increase to meet the staffing needs of the front line, and resourcing the specialty units created to meet emerging trends that required additional staffing resources  by the OPP to execute their mandate for public safety in Ontario. Our Members often work in collaboration with First Nations and other small and mid-sized municipal police services. Any increase in available training spots for police officers in Ontario is always welcomed by the OPP Association.”
