Ontario Police Suicide Memorial 2024
The first annual Ontario Police Suicide Memorial occurred on Sunday June 23, 2024 at Ontario Police Memorial Park in Toronto. Fifty-one names of police members who died by suicide because of the line of duty were read and honoured. The event was organized by Canada Beyond the Blue.
The OPP Association Board of Directors were in attendance, along with a large turnout from families, our OPPA membership, including our new recruit class who arrived on buses from Orillia.
A “Silent March” of police members from Queen’s Park to Ontario Police Memorial Park started the event. The ‘Silent March’ of police members intermingled from many police services throughout Ontario ended with a breaking of the silence at the ceremony, symbolizing breaking down stigma of not talking about suicide.
A special thank you to everyone who made this day possible. We will never forget the service and sacrifice of our members who have died by suicide. Our hearts are with their families today and every day.
If you have a loved one who served as a Police Member and died by suicide, you can contact Canada Beyond the Blue for consideration of your loved one’s name to be added to the Ontario Police Suicide Memorial.
